Opportunity and Fear in Business

Sounds great right? Well, so far I have failed to follow through with them. Now I'm trying to figure out why. For some I could easily blame it on being an introvert; however, that excuse won't fly with the rest. The answer is probably fear, but fear of what? All I know is I've procrastinated, caused myself stress, and perhaps delayed so long that the opportunities are already lost. Lost. That's not what I want. I really do want the future these opportunities could bring, but it's big and scary and I'm not sure my work is worthy. I'm not sure I'm worthy. Change is scary. The unknown future is scary. What if it all works out? What if it doesn't? Why did they pick me? I think most of us are faced with these fears and doubts at one time or another, whether in business or in life. I remember what Xena told Gabrielle when she froze up during a fight, "Act, don't react. Go with your gut." That's good advice. I need to remember to use it. Maybe I also need to remember my Ferengi Rules of Acquisition. The 9th rule states, "Opportunity plus instinct equals profit." Fear will definitely block our natural instincts and thus our opportunity for profit. And lost profit is just as sad as a missed opportunity due to fear. Maybe some day I'll figure out the reason for my fear and maybe I won't. For now, all I can do is make myself follow through. Here's hoping my light at the end of this tunnel of fear and doubt is a big, shiny future. I hope the same is true for you. Have you ever felt this way? What did you do to overcome it? I'd love to hear about your experiences in the comments below or by email. :)
